Extensibility of the human pulmonary trunk.

چکیده
The mechanical properties of the walls of blood vessels have an important influence on the flow of blood and passage of pulse waves along them. Though a certain amount of information is available concerning the mechanical properties of the aorta and its main branches (Burton, 1954), we have been unable to find any observations on the pulmonary circulation. Hence, in view of the increasing interest in human pulmonary hmmodynamics, it seemed worth while to investigate the physical characteristics of the wall of the pulmonary trunk in man.

A case of severe pulmonary hypertension associated with common arterial trunk and VSD in a 9 years old child
Background: Common arterial trunk (CAT) is a rare congenital heart disease, and often leads to the early development of pulmonary hypertension and disability. Among the critical structural heart defects, the frequency of CAT is 3%, which reflects the severe hemodynamic disturbances. The natural course of the disease is characterized by a high mortality rate up to 88% during the first year of li...

The physcial properties of human pulmonary arteries and veins.
1. We have studied the extensibility of circumferential strips of main pulmonary artery and large pulmonary veins obtained at post mortem from patients of all ages, dying from conditions other than heart and lung disease. 2. The vessel strips were submitted to increasing loads in a tension balance. The pulmonary arteries were found to be readily extensible. This extensibility became less with i...
متن کاملInfluence of Hamstring Muscles Extensibility on Spinal Curvatures and Pelvic Tilt in Highly Trained Cyclists
The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of hamstring muscles extensibility in standing, maximal trunk flexion with knees extended and on the bicycle in lower handlebar-hands position of highly trained cyclists. Ninety-six cyclists were recruited for the study (mean ± SD, age: 30.36 ± 5.98 years). Sagittal spinal curvatures and pelvic tilt were measured in the standing position,...
متن کاملComparison of Hamstring Extensibility and Spinal Posture between Kayakers and Canoeists
The aims of this study were: 1) to determine the differences in hamstring extensibility between kneeling and forward legs in a group of canoeists; 2) to compare hamstring extensibility between canoeists and kayakers; and 3) to compare the sagittal spinal posture and pelvic tilt in the maximal trunk flexion with knees extended in kayakers and canoeists. Ninety-nine young male paddlers (17.51±6.1...
